DAVID G. THOMSON has a passion for innovation, business-building and leadership. His unquenchable thirst for identifying the difference-making traits of the most successful high growth businesses led him to a deep inquiry into the growth and management traits of America’s highest growth companies. Based on three years of detailed research of American companies that have IPO’s since 1980 and grown to at least $1 Billion in revenue, Thomson’s soon-to-be-released (Nov. 2005, Wiley Publishing) Blueprint to a Billion: 7 Essentials to Achieve Exponential Growth provides the first quantitative identification of the success patterns common across this distinctive group of “Blueprint Companies.” During the research period, Thomson presented early findings to over one thousand Fortune 500 executives, small company CEOs, and investors to test his findings and gain insight to dig even deeper.

Thomson has applied his line and consulting experiences to this fresh and unique research. He has been leading business growth for 20 years in general management and executive sales/marketing at Nortel Networks and Hewlett-Packard. He also spent five years on the consulting team at McKinsey & Company.

As the General Manager of Residential Services at Nortel Networks, Thomson led the division that defined, developed, standardized, and launched many of the advanced Caller ID services consumers enjoy on today. This groundbreaking work launched a multi-billion dollar business for telecom equipment manufacturers, telephone service providers and consumer products companies.

During Thomson’s executive sales and marketing career, he was responsible for transforming strategic customer relationships and, in many cases, growing revenues derived from those relationships to the multi-hundred million dollar level.

As a core member of McKinsey & Company’s Telecom Practice, Thomson led client engagements in operational effectiveness, private equity, business-building, and growth strategy.

Thomson graduated with an Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He resides with his family in Overland Park, Kansas. Besides his many other passions, Thomson is an avid designer, builder, and pilot of radio-controlled jets.
