| This novel processing technology subjects an advanced polymer blend to reactive extrusion to produce a film. When followed by dissolution of part of the material a non-woven fabric with unique properties emerges. The resulting material is quite different from most non-woven materials that are randomly oriented continuous fibers. This technology yields a fibrous web of extremely fine diameters, directionally-oriented, with a silky texture, and a water-wettable surface. Because the material has a controlled, aligned, porous microstructure, it could be used in many emerging industrial and scientific applications, such as wicks, substrates, and separation fabrics, as well as in consumer items such as garments and personal care products.
