| Honeywell has developed a low cost, state-of the-art, noncontact fluid seal or oil seal which eliminate output shaft seal leakage and maintain optimum lubrication at very high rotational speeds. The creative design replaces carbon face and lip seal technology. There are no contacting surfaces between the rotor and housing. The proven design includes a slinger rotor mounted within the bearing housing and dynamic air-oil separators for centrifugal pumping of oil away from the shaft passage. The slinger rotor includes a radial ring with a circumferential array of ports. During shaft rotation, oil and air are pumped by centrifugal action away from the shaft-to-housing interface. Honeywell successfully markets air turbine starters that depend on this unique oil seal technology.
