| The corrosion of aluminum surfaces is a significant concern in industries which benefit from the lightweight quality of aluminum component materials. Specifically, aluminum surfaces are susceptible to several types of corrosion--including general corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion, and cavitation-erosion corrosion. Honeywell technology offers a valuable method to inhibit cavitation-erosion (CE) of aluminum surfaces. The method involves a formulation comprised of a corrosion inhibitor of carboxylic acid and a polymerizable-acid graft polymer applied to an aluminum surface. The resulting inhibition of CE corrosion is surprisingly effective and highly reliable.
