| Phosphoroustriscaprolactams are useful for effectively promoting esterification, amidation-type polycondensations, or polymer-polymer grafting reactions in an extruder for the purpose of creating compatible polymer blends. These novel chemical compositions may be utilized in blends of polyphenylene ether, polyester, or polycarbonate with beneficial results of decreased crystallinity and increased impact resistance. The novel reagent tris(caprolactyl)phosphite (TCP) is highly suitable as a catalyst for esterification or other condensation reactions. Unlike other compatibilizers, TCP is more hydrolytically stable and forms no toxic byproducts.
