| This proven, commercialized "Toolkit" facilitates quick development of Honeywell Communications Interface (HCI) and OPC compliant servers. The kit includes a novel Time-Out Indicator (TOI) feature to overcome situations wherein real-time process control systems become suspended indefinitely or for long periods of time. An intermediary object is placed between the client and the resource to return control to the client if the request is not completed within a predetermined time period. Adverse impacts caused by indefinite "hanging" are eliminated, information flow is improved, and a more robust process control system results. Use of the Toolkit also reduces server development time through Dynamically Linked Libraries (DLLs). An application wizard simplifies the task of generating server code. Updating code requires only the replacement or updating of DLLs. The "Toolkit" includes a sample server, which simulates access to a control system. A generic OPC client can be coded, with the use of an HCI Client Toolkit, in order to utilize the TOI feature. |
