| Every day we use devices that incorporate Liquid Crystal Displays or LCDs. Laptops, PDAs, Cell phones, Digital Cameras and personal GPS navigation systems are just a few. If you’ve used these devices you might notice that sometimes the text and images on the displays leave something to be desired. Images and text can often appear fuzzy and difficult to read. This is because the typical LCD utilizes technology that only affords a detail level of one pixel. But what if you could refine that pixel to the point where the related text and images were as clear as you would find on a printed document or image? A technique known as Subpixel Rendering (SPR) dramatically improves the appearance of text and graphics on LCD displays. Microsoft incorporates its innovative approach to SPR in many of its Windows® products under the brand name ClearType®. Not sure this will work? You may already have this technology on your computer so try this: Go to Control Panel on your computer, click Display, click Appearance, click Effects then check the box for "smooth edges of screen fonts," making sure that the popup menu reads "ClearType." |
