| Automatic blood pressure measurement, which can be performed at home, is required by more and more patients, who want to take active part in their health management and for telemedicine. However, the available commercial automatic blood pressure meters are not reliable enough for clinical use because of their low accuracy. There is therefore need for accurate automatic blood pressure meter, for use at home and in hospital. NINBAR has developed a cuff-based automatic blood pressure meter, which is reliable and accurate enough for clinical use. This device is aimed for use by professionals, at home and through telemedicine. Since hypertension affects about a third of the population in the developed countries, the commercial opportunities opened by using our blood pressure meter follow their clinical significance. Furthermore, NINBAR's technique for blood pressure measurement is relatively immune to movements and therefore enables blood pressure measurement during ambulance transportation. The technique also allows measurements of systolic blood pressure as low as 40-50 mmHg. In 2002, manufacturer revenues for the blood pressure meters world market were expected to generate $750 million (Frost & SulAccurate and reliable blood pressure measurement is essential for proper diagnosis and effective managmenet of hypertension. Available automatic blood pressure meters aren't accurate enough for clincial use. This device offers significant advantages in accuracy versus clincial automatic blood pressure meters, and is also highly suitable for at-home use including telemedicine use, where blood pressure screening represents a major consumer market opportunity. Beyond accurate blood pressure readings, the PPG technology applied in this patented device has application to other desirable diagnostic capability, including devices which enable assessment of key cardiovascular measures of artertial stiffness and arteriolar resistance. |
