| This is a platform technology which combines an elastomeric polymer modified bitumen binder with scrap tyre granulate (rubber crumb) and aggregate material from either waste and or virgin materials. By varying either the size of particles and or the quantity of the ingredients the material can be designed to perform in different ways, thereby producing different products. This product utilizes waste material, is cheaper to manufacture than traditional 2 layer asphalt and can be engineered to react in a time response manner due to changes in the viscosity of the layers. Thus the asphalt is highly shock and impact absorbing making it a very attractive surface for multiple application areas. This material is ideal for children’s play grounds, sports surfaces such as running tracks, synthetic hockey pitches and football pitches (this material is excellent for athletes to use). There is also another significant advantage to this technology in that only one layer of this material would be required for a shock pad surface, unlike a traditional method which takes 2 weeks to lay and consists of three different layers (2 layers of asphalt and a rubber shock pad). The method of manufacture of these materials is the same as for traditional asphalt therefore no new equipment or capital spending is required, but the result is the next generation of impact absorbing asphalt’s. |
