| Current remote controls are not good for the “video-on-demand” age. The user interface of new TVs should be provided by “video-on-demand” servers. But, user interfaces such as provided by Microsoft Media Center PC are often locked on hardware. This new remote control includes a pointing device. A user can place a cursor at an aiming point on a television screen simply by pointing the new remote control at that location. The new remote controls having pointer functions can provide better user experience when interacting with the “video-on-demand” servers. The new remote control can be manufactured very cost effectively. It can be integrated with TVs, game consoles (e.g., Xbox or Playstation), Microsoft Media Center PCs, Digital Video Recorders ( e.g., TiVo box).
