| TTIR (Through-Transmission Infrared Welding) transmits wavelengths of light , either laser or halogen lamp generated, through one of the materials to the second. The absorptive nature of the substrates causing substrate heating/melting and enables tha welding of the parts held together under pressure. Unlike ultrasonics, hot plate welding and other common plastic joining processes, TTIR is a non contact process that is virtually flashless. It is also less expensive than the electrofusion pipe welding process. TTIR is applicable to all common thermo plastics including polycarbonate, acrylics, polyethylene, acrylonitrile, PVDF, ABS, PVC and polyethylene. Application areas include the joining and/or manufacture of automotive components (tail lights), plastic pipe joints, small electronic components like sensors and the repair of installed plastic chemical and water tank liners. The process has been demonstrated in various of the application areas above at pilot scale.piece plastic |
