| This technology provides a safe, environmentally acceptable, and economically attractive process for the production of ortho-nitroaromatic acids in high yield from ortho-nitroalkylaromatic compounds. The improved process comprises direct oxidation of ortho-nitroaromatic compounds in an oxidation-resistant solvent, with a catalytic metal salt in air in the presence of an aldehyde or ketone.
