TechPak Categories Scanner having a vertical rest position Desktop space is precious! A scanner according to the current invention comprises a chassis (11) standing on a desktop (20) and a body (15) comprising the actual scanning engine (16). The chassis and the body are pivotally connected (25). The scanner can be operated in a horizontal operation. The chassis (11) has a near vertical surface against which the body can rest. The chassis may also comprise a user interface such a control buttons. This invention offers a simple and elegant solution to reduce the area that is taken by a scanner on a desktop by enabling the scanner body (15) to be put in a near vertical rest position against a chassis (11) when it is not in use. Optionally the chassis (11) also includes a user interface such as control buttons and/or a display, a power supply and driver and communications hardware. The invention is not limited to plain scanners, but also covers scanners that comprise a built-in printer such as multifunctional devices and fax machines. The scanner can be a document scanner, a scanner for photographic images or a scanner for medical images. Interested?
