| This patented self-aligning nutplate enables faster, less expensive and more reliable assembly for parts having non-parallel and/or contoured outer surfaces by eliminating the need for shimming, counter-boring or spot-facing. The nutplate base is designed to conform to the part contour, while the spherical floating washer allows the captive nut to rotate to accommodate non-parallel installations. A proof-of-concept prototype has been fabricated and successfully tested for an aerospace antenna installation. Other applications for this self-aligning nutplate may include automotive or marine installations, assembly of industrial equipment/machinery, or any application requiring mechanical fastening of contoured or non-parallel surfaces. |
