| SP-Rx eliminates the problem associated with improper prescription drug filling caused by a lack of communication between a physician and pharmacist. Prescriptions are generally hand written by physicians. These can be misread by the pharmacist resulting in administrating the wrong medication to the patient, which can cause severe damage to the health of the patient, including death. The SP-Rx is a prescription drug printer that allows a physician to print out prescriptions in a consistent legible format for the pharmacist, therefore, eliminating the need to hand-write prescriptions. The physician is able to print prescriptions in their own office allowing them full control on what is printed out. Not only does the SP-Rx print out prescriptions but it will also print out a receipt similar to each prescription for the patient’s home records. On each prescription and patient receipt, there will be an accurate picture of the medication along with a description of the size, shape and color of what the medication looks like. In the case of a liquid or cream, the picture will be of the bottle/tube of the medication. This is an added measure which allows the patient to visually confirm that they are receiving the correct medication. The patient prescription will also contain pertinent information of the prescribed drug, such as directions and possible side effects. The printer is capable of housing a database of all known available medications which can be updated when needed. Also, it has memory capability to store patient prescription history, and allows for translation into foreign languages for patients who may not be fully fluent in English. The SP-Rx will print on both adhesive paper and plain paper. This provides the pharmacist with the option of placing the prescription directly on the medication bottle. The printer also can be integrated with an office computer or preferably, integrated with a touch screen system. |
