| The Continuously Operational Biological Reactor (COB) is the new innovation in animal manure management. The current procedure in converting manure to usable fertilizer is scattering manure in fields to let it convert naturally via its exposure to oxygen and sunlight. This is a rather lengthy procedure and vast plots of farmland are required to be set aside so that all the manure receives equal exposure to the elements. The Continuously Operational Biological Reactor seeks to improve this current process through use of a reactor that uses anaerobic and aerobic measures to expedite the manure conversion process. The size of the system is one that can fit in a 40-foot box. It is comprised of a top loading system with an inner and outer drum. Some of the other components include a dewatering screw, a mixer and airflow passageways. The waste will move through an inner drum for aerobic processing then an outer drum for anaerobic processing before turning out a finished product. Because the process is done in the machine, the land normally required to store the manure is decreased making it available for other more profitable operations What would normally take 30 days now can be completed in roughly 24 hours. The added benefit of not using chemicals makes the product safer and more environmentally friendly. The Continuously Operational Biological Reactor is the new, more effective way to turn animal waste into valuable fertilizer. |
