TechPak Categories Low Temperature Curable Gas Barrier Coating for Polymeric Films and Containers This low temperature curable barrier coating is suitable for almost all polymeric films, sheets, and shapes. It is particularly well suited for improving the gas (oxygen and carbon dioxide) barrier performance of polyethylene terephthalate (`PET`) films, sheeting, and rigid containers used for packaging foods and beverages, especially injection stretch blow molded PET bottles used for packaging carbonated soft drinks and beer. The key enabling feature for superior gas barrier performance is the use of carefully selected inorganic fillers and organic binders capable of chelating with boric acid. Gas permeability is reduced more than 20X relative to uncoated polymer. The coating is clear and recyclable in the clear PET recycle stream.
