| The DC Lumbar Compression Frame is designed to position a patient to selectively create intra-spinal pressure in a non-invasive manner while the patient remains in the supine position. The axial compression exerted by the Compression Frame provides accuracy and efficiency in the diagnosis of herniated lumbar disc disease when used in conjunction with supine MRI imaging. The DC Lumbar Compression Frame allows the patient to remain in the supine position while creating disc pressure equivalent to that in the seated position (150 kPa). This results in an accurate diagnosis of Herniated Lumbar Disc Disease. DC Lumbar Compression includes a harness, footrest, and tensioning unit. It is also equipped with a pressure meter used to constantly monitor the pressure applied to the spine. While axial compression is applied to the patient’s spine, he or she may be repositioned into an imaging apparatus such as an MRI or CT. An existing prototype has been thoroughly tested and in use without any neurological damage. The apparatus and method are protected by several U.S. patents. |
