Coriolus versicolor Mycelia and its culture production technology
The pilot-scale submerged cultures of Coriolus versicolor were carried out in a series of fermentors (5-, 100-, 700-, and 6000-L); the 6000-L fermentor was used to validate the optimum conditions on the production. The dry weight of a cell was 8.3%(w/v) recovered through spray dry. The polysaccharides extracted from the recovered product had a structure with peptides and glucose linkages. Forty-eight SD rats divided into three groups were used to study the toxicity of the product (28 days). Each group, containing 8 male and 8 female rats, was treated with the mycelial powder of Coriolus versicolor via gavage at 3 dose levels; high dosage (1,000 mg/kg/day), middle dosage (500 mg/kg/day), and control group(2 mL saline/kg/day), for 28 days. The measurements included daily clinical observations, weekly body weights and food consumption. Hematology and serum clinical chemistry evaluations were executed at termination. A complete autopsy was performed on any rats that died, or upon termination. The results have provided evidence that the powder of Coriolus versicolor are nontoxic and safe.
