| An efficient commercial method of continuously producing a lactam in a reaction field of high-temperature, high-pressure water has been developed. Lactam is a source material for nylon 6. The new method synthesizes lactam without the need to neutralize large amounts of used waste sulfuric acid, as is the case in conventional production methods in which fuming sulfuric acid is used as a catalyst. The lactam can be efficiently and continuously synthesized at a high rate by introducing an oxime as a reaction substrate, and an acid, into a reaction zone through which high-temperature and high-pressure water is flowing, thus rapidly raising the temperature and pressure to supercritical levels. Although reaction pressure and temperature are severe when compared to the conventional chemistry compounding method, the new method does not generate large quantities of waste products such as cyclohexanone and ammonium sulfate (which conventional methods can generate in quantities of 2-to-1 over the desired lactam product).innovative AIST lactam selectively cyclohexanone introducing oxime substrate high-temperature high-pressure water carrying reaction time raise shortened caprolactam shorter conventional continuously aqueous solution directly zone whereby set reached (less second) hence hydrolysis suppressed |
