| This technology selectively separates fines and small particles that have a desired particle size range by using the particles’ specific gravity and their various sedimentation rates in a rotating vessel of vibrating liquid. By adjusting the frequency and amplitude of the vibration, and by controlling the rotation of the vessel, the technology can enlarge what may be a close-to-equal settling ratio for small particles of high specific gravity and larger particles of low specific gravity, so as to achieve accurate separation by cross-sectional dimension or specific gravity. The technology also includes a charged rotor immersed in a liquid containing oppositely charged particles. The rotor serves to capture the charged particles and the technology can then measure the diameter of that class of particle which has the largest diameter among the captured particles. The technology overcomes the problems of conventional sedimentation separation, agglomeration, and filtration. Applications include separating powders of rare metals during recycling (difficult to impossible with current technology), coal analysis and other mineral separation (coal has a particularly complex structure and requires detailed analysis), and waste treatment.Conventional techniques separating particles dispersed liquid sedimentation agglomeration agglomerating agent filtration Sedimentation long time separation poses problem remains phase Filtration causes clogging filter diameter 30 micrometers less |
