| In a light emitting device with Lambertian emission (such as OLED) the extraction of light is limited by the waveguide effect inside the substrate. The introduction of novel structured surfaces on the substrate results in a brighter device. The extra brightness is gained from these novel surfaces in conjunction with structured electrodes. Higher brightness can be obtained using different kind of patterns in the micrometer scale (microoptics), sub-micrometer scale (diffraction elements) and at nanometer scale (photonic crystals, porous anodic alumina). |
