| Most of the chemical elements in nature come as a mixture of isotopes - different versions of the same element with almost indistinguishable chemical and physical properties. Separation of isotopes is an important technological problem with multiple applications in science and industry. This present invention relates to a method for the separation of an isotope from a gaseous mixture of isotopes using pulsed lasers. It effectively realizes a mechanical separation machine at the level of a single molecule, and may be applied to a variety of isotopes.
