Method for obtaining organic solvent-resistant microorganisms useful in petroleum desulfurization
This technology provides a method for obtaining a microorganism that is resistant to organic solvents, such as those found in petroleum. It also provides an organic-solvent-resistant microorganism wherein the biodegradability of organic sulfur compounds is exemplified, and a method for the biological desulfurization of organic compounds by the use of these microorganisms. Most microorganisms, even those that can degrade the hard-to-remove sulfur compounds found in petroleum, are natively hydrophilic. This requirement for large amounts of process water renders petroleum desulfurization through biocatalysts a hugely expensive proposition. This technology subjects to mutagenesis a parent strain of Pseudomonas putida of known ability to degrade sulfur compounds, and then selectively cultivates it in the presence of organic solvents, thus producing a strain that is resistant to organic solvents and also capable of degrading sulfur compounds.Background relates organic solvent-resistant microorganisms conversion (ie mutation selective cultivation) themethod
