| Growth performance assessment or prediction is critical for livestock farmers. The invention provides a method to assess the growth performance using polymorphism in porcine heat shock protein gene hsp70.2. We found 5 polymorphic sites in the 5’-flanking region of porcine hsp70.2 using automated sequencing. The effect of the polymorphism in the 5’-flanking region of porcine hsp70.2 on growth performance(ADG, BF, A110, and FE)was analyzed by using the least-squares means method. There were significant effects of polymorphism at nt 393 on ADG in Duroc. Boars with TT and TC genotype at nt 393 were significantly higher (by 70g) than boars with CC genotype(P<0.05). Boars with TT and TC genotype at nt 393 grow faster (by 8 days) than boars with CC genotype(P<0.05). Moreover, we developed a method to detect the polymorphism at nt 393 by PCR-RFLP. Therefore, polymorphism in the 5’-flanking region of porcine hsp70.2 can be used as a marker for early detection of growth performance. |
