| A safety mattress, fitting the dimensions of a standard-sized crib, as an aid for the prevention of SIDS death. The unique structure of the mattress allows a constant free flow of air through it to the infant, lying in any position. The mattress is firm, therefore approximating standard crib mattresses, giving uniform support to the baby and enabling proper development of motor capabilities in the child. A mesh sheet, allowing free air flow, is stretched taut over the mattress and is fastened either to the crib or the mattress. The simple production methods offer the possibility of a relatively inexpensive product. The mattress can be manufactured in different dimensions and can serve medical situations (possibly pressure sores) in which air-circulation is a crucial element of the support surface for the individual. |
