Tactile Perception System and Device
The tactile perception system is based on human illusion. When the system provides stimulation to a CG (computer generated) model of a body part in the virtual space, the individual will feel a sense of touch stimulation as if it were occuring to their own body. This invention is a new method that creates unconventional skin sensation, and alters human tactile perception, using visual images of tactile sensation being applied to a body model displayed in virtual space. Using this method enables the display of sensation of human touch activities beyond the expressive capacity of conventional tactile display devices; it can even invoke a sense of touch without actual application of tactile sensation. This characteristic suggests various potential applications into the areas of information technology and multi-media, and can be used towards simplification and cost reduction of existing devices.
