| This technology encompasses light emitting diodes that have silyl-substituted pyrenes (an example compound is shown in the figure). These compounds sublime or vaporize easily and are ideal for vacuum deposition onto the clear electrode plate of the LED device. Thin films of these materials obtained via vacuum deposition exhibit excellent electroluminescent properties. Additional materials can be present in the emitting layer with the silyl-substituted pyrene compound. For example, a fluorescent dye may be present to alter the color of emission.
