| This platform for a universal assay system offers label-free detection of biomolecular interactions such as drug-target interactions or immunoassays. Label-free detection avoids altering the biomolecular interactions being tested, which can interfere with drug target interaction studies. The system can handle small molecules up to cell-based samples. It is extremely robust, sensitive, and provides low-cost tests because of its direct test format. The system uses standard glass or plastic disposables -- or any unstructured transparent material -- as a transducer. No gold layer or grating is necessary. Other features include time-resolved quantitative measurement of any biomolecular interaction (DNA/DNA, DNA/protein, protein/protein, etc.) as well as investigations on living cells; measurements that are unaffected by temperature change to eliminate the need for thermo stabilization; directly hyphenated to electrophoresis and mass spectrometry; and offers flexible surface chemistry for Specific Affinity Surfaces (SAS) including QS with extremely low non-specific binding, the latter allowing measurements in complex matrices like blood, serum, food, and cell culture medium. Three prototypes are currently available: a low-cost sensor based on standard semiconductor parts (1-6 spots), disposable integrated chip sensor for up to 10 spots, and an imaging device for free-scalable high-density arrays (1000 spots) on microtiter plate format. The technology provider promises guaranteed proof of technology for high-throughput screening and high content screening. Applications include drug development, molecular diagnostic research, and basic research in life science. |
