TechNeeds have proven to be the most powerful way to discover new technologies to solve your problems. Because the technology that answers a TechNeed does not need to be listed on the site already, technology providers can contact you with solutions you could not know they have.
Important: To post a TechNeed on yet2.com, your organization needs to be authorized to do so by the yet2.com administrator, and you need to have TechNeed posting privileges set for you by your group Administrator.
To create your own TechNeed:
- Log in, and click My yet2.com on the menu bar.
- In Actions: TechNeeds on the lefthand sidebar, click Create TechNeed. yet2.com displays the TechNeed form. Learn more about the fields of the TechNeed form here: TechNeed: Anonymous and Powerful.
- When you have completed the form, click Submit. yet2.com displays a thank-you message. Depending on how your account and your own membership is set up, your TechNeed may need to be approved by your in-licensing Administrator for approval, or may go directly to yet2.com for approval. You should receive an email advising you when your TechNeed appears on yet2.com.
How to Respond to Someone Else´s TechNeed
You can respond to a TechNeed even if you do not have a technology currently posted on yet2.com.
To respond to a TechNeed:
- While viewing a TechNeed, click Respond to TechNeed in the sidebar (to the left). yet2.com displays the Respond to a TechNeed page.
- Complete the response form. Table 1 explains the fields of the response form.
- Click Submit. yet2.com displays a thank-you message. The yet2.com administrator will contact you shortly.
How to Monitor yet2.com Automatically for New TechNeeds
One of the most powerful uses for saved searches is to set up a search that watches for new TechNeeds in your field of expertise. Saved searches run periodically for you, even if you are not logged in, and can automatically send you an email notification when new TechNeeds appear that meet your criteria.
To set up a search for new TechNeeds:
- Log in, and then click List a Technology on the blue menu bar. The List a Technology page is where you search for other people´s TechNeeds -- to see whether there are needs that you can fill with your technology (even if you don´t choose to list it right now).
- In the search box at the bottom of the page, enter search terms that describe the technology needs you believe you can fill. For example, aerospace or chemical processing.
Your search terms help determine the success of your search. Remember that people searching for solutions likely will not know ahead of time the right solution until you propose it -- so they are unlikely to place in their TechNeeds words and phrases that perfectly describe your technology. Would a chemical feedstock producer necessarily know to look for "laminar flow airfoil technology" to help develop the blades of a new mixer? No, but the technology may be applicable nonetheless. If your expertise is in laminar flow, you may need to search for TechNeeds that involve blades, impellers, propellers, airfoils, thrust, venturi, or even fluid dynamics.
Tip: Placing commas between your search terms is equivalent to OR, and broadens your search. Placing AND between search terms narrows your search by including all terms. See Search Tips for more information.
- Click Go to execute the search. yet2.com displays the search results page, with the TechNeed tab highlighted, showing that you are looking at TechNeed listings. Because you are setting up a search to notify you about new TechNeeds, your search is effective even if it returns no immediate results (but it´s always nice to see results that you can use immediately).
- Click Save Search. yet2.com displays the Save Search page.
- Give your saved search a title, and then click the check box for Send email notification. Optionally, you can click Save results of the search. Save results accumulates any results from periodically running the saved search. This happens automatically. You can review saved search results by clicking the name of your saved search on the My yet2.com page.
