Privileges
See Also:
A group Administrator grants a privilege by clicking the check box for that privilege next to a person´s name on either the New Group Members or Group Members pages. There are five specific privileges that the group Administrator controls:
Request TechPak Introduction (without admin approval):
When the group Adminstrator...
- grants the Request TechPak Introduction privilege to a person, that person can ask for an introduction to a technology provider from yet2.com without requiring the approval of the in-licensing Administrator. The in-licensing Administrator is notified of the introduction request by email.
- does not grant the introduction privilege, a person can still ask for an introduction, but it requires the in-licensing Administrator´s approval before going to yet2.com.
Implication: An introduction is the beginning of a negotiation process to acquire a technology, and will probably incur costs. People in your organization who can request introductions directly should be authorized to speak for the organization.
Submit a TechNeed (without admin approval):
When the group Administrator...
- grants the Submit a TechNeed privilege to a person, that person can post a TechNeed on yet2.com without requiring the approval of the in-licensing Administrator. The in-licensing Administrator is notified by email.
- does not grant the Submit a TechNeed privilege, a person can still submit a TechNeed but it requires the in-licensing Administrator´s approval before going to yet2.com.
Implication: A TechNeed is a description of a technology need, and is a very powerful way to acquire new technologies. yet2.com often wants to deal directly with and provide extra help to organizations that post TechNeeds. A person who can post a TechNeed without approval should be authorized to speak for the organization.
Author a TechPak:
When the group Administrator...
- grants the Author a TechPak privilege to a person, that person can submit TechPaks to the out-licensing Administrator for approval and forwarding on to yet2.com.
- does not grant the Author a TechPak privilege, the person cannot upload a TechPak (although he can download the form and use it locally; he cannot upload it).
Implication: While TechPaks are relatively simple to create, they do represent technologies that your organization is willing to license. Most organizations have created small groups of authors who write up the company´s TechPaks. Limiting the authoring privilege to that group means that others who write up technologies must at least pass their TechPaks by the author group for review.
Respond to a TechNeed (without admin approval):
When the group Administrator...
- grants Respond to a TechNeed privileges to a person, that person can respond to a TechNeed by saying that your organization has a technology that can answer the need of another organization without the approval of the out-licensing Administrator.
- does not grant the privilege, a person can still respond to the TechNeed, but the out-licensing Administrator must first approve the response.
Implication: The response to a TechNeed is very close to an introduction; it´s announcing that you have a technology that may satisfy the need. People in your organization who can respond to a TechNeed without approval should be authorized to speak for the organization.
Accept a TechNeed Introduction:
When the group Administrator...
- grants Accept a TechNeed Introduction privileges to a person, that person can accept a technology being offered as a solution to your organization´s published TechNeed. This acceptance becomes an introduction.
- does not grant Accept a TechNeed Introduction privileges, the person never sees any responses.
Implication: Usually, this privilege is granted in conjunction with Submit a TechNeed, so that if the needs this person submits result in a response, he can respond to them knowledgeably. If a person has the Submit a TechNeed privilege, but not the Accept a TechNeed Introduction privilege, the acceptance, if any, is a duty of the in-licensing Administrator.
Default Privileges
The group Administrator can set and adjust -- and remove -- privileges person by person. However, for day-to-day operations, it´s better to set default privileges that will apply to every new person joining the group account. Then, you only need to concern yourself with the exceptions. You set default privileges on the New Group Members page. New members remain on this page for 60 days.
Important: At your request, the yet2.com admin can override the following privileges:
The yet2.com admin can do this either by allowing all TechPak introductions and TechNeed submissions/responses to go directly to yet2.com, or by blocking all such introductions and TechNeed submissions/responses -- regardless of the settings you may show on the group members page. yet2.com will do this only at the request of the group Administrator.
When would you request these settings? If yours is a small organization -- several partners, for example -- you might want all TechPak introductions and TechNeeds transactions to proceed regardless of who was nominally the group Administrator or what settings may have been made. You would ask the yet2.com admin to set All for these features.
If yours is a large organization, you might want none of your TechPak introduction requests or TechNeed transactions to go directly to yet2.com regardless of any setting accidentally made by the group Administrator. You would ask the yet2.com admin to set None for these features. (The appropriate Administrator still sees and must approve all submissions.)
The Author a TechPak privilege is a special case, because if you do not grant the privilege to a person, that person cannot submit a TechPak at all; if you do grant the Author a TechPak privilege, the submission must pass through the out-licensing Administrator before it can be submitted to yet2.com.
If you have questions about this override feature, please speak with your yet2.com training specialist or contact yet2.com Customer Support at helpsupport@yet2.com.
