Seeking: Mobility Ingredient for the Chinese Market
A yet2 client is seeking novel ingredients for joint and/or muscle health that are, can be, or plan to be approved and launched in China. Novel ingredients for muscle/joint health from suppliers who are willing and able to launch/ship into China (i.e. not subject to the CFDA poultry ban) are of particular interest.
yet2 will consider ingredient suppliers who are able to work through CFDA ingredient approval or are already working towards current or new function claims in China. There is special interest in suppliers already present in China.

Portable Device Senses Overexposure to Harmful UV Rays, Considering your Unique Skin Type
Kimberly-Clark has developed a portable device that alerts the user to instantaneous and accumulated UV exposure based on the ambient UV and the user’s own skin type. Different skin types reacto to UV exposure differently. The sensor can also advise on sunscreen SPF levels required and application times. There are many UV sensors and skin sensors available on the market. However, this is the only inventions that integrats the two sensors. The device uses both sensors to advise the user.
- The system tracks and alerts a user about UV radiation based on measurement of skin type.
- This is the only device that integrates UV sensor, sensor for skin type, and controller.
- Skin type sensor measuress characteristics such as erthema and melanin.
- The UV detection device measures ultraviolet ray quantity present in the environment.
- The controller bases its advice on daata received from the skin measuring device and the ambient UV, as well as the amount of time the user will be exposed to the environment.
The company seeks to license the device and/or the associated patents and know-how for use as a stand-alone product or to be incorporated into other high-tech wearables and smartphones for the outdoor and fitness market. The wearable sensors market is expected to grow to well over $5.5B USD by 2025. The technology is in early prototype stage, right for adding as a feature to other devices. Kimberly-Clark is willing to produce samples for parties having serious interest.

Applying AI and Machine Learning to Patent Data Analysis
Yang Yu, a licensing analyst here at yet2, is our expert on AI and machine learning. He recently blogged about how we are leveraging AI and machine learning for our patent analysis services.
Yang writes, “Over the past few years, not only have AI techniques been greatly improved, but people have also become more aware of them. As a result, using AI to process patent data has become a lot easier and more accurate. It becomes the rational choice of the next step for patent analysis process and product development. For example, a programmer or a patent analyst can have easy access to enterprise-grade computing power and well-documented and easy-to-use programming libraries. Patent search, patent review, and many other type of patent work are being changed by modern AI technology.”
