Seeking: Alternatives to Animal Proteins
Consumer demand for alternative protein sources is increasing. This is driven by a variety of motivations including health benefits, environmental benefits, concerns for animal welfare, economic concerns, and future global resource concerns.
A yet2 client is seeking alternatives to animal protein. These may be sourced from plants, fungi, marine organisms, and other sources.

Available for Licensing: Patented, low-friction surface texture for lubricated sliding surfaces
yet2 is offering for license a surface texture technology that reduces friction between lubricated, sliding surfaces–such as in linear sliding bearings in industrial machinery. This technology comprises patented patterns of surface features, applied to lubricated sliding surfaces, that have been proven to encourage and maintain a stable fluid film during sliding contact.
This surface texture technology provides a significant reduction in dynamic and breakout (static) friction, which makes lubrication more effective, more consistent over a long period of time, and last longer by reducing heat buildup. It does not eliminate the need for a fluid lubricant, but may reduce the amount needed over a given period of time. In certain use cases, it may also allow cheaper lubrications to be used without affecting performance.
The technology is particularly effective in applications where fluid lubricants are used, and where there is low load on the interfacial surfaces, high number of cycles, and medium to high velocity of movement. It also increases the effectiveness of bearings in critical positioning situations by reducing heat induced variations and in providing a more consistent friction level.

yet2’s Megan Waldock examines the top six categories in the rapidly growing pet tech sector.
Pet technology, or pet tech, has seen significant industry growth in recent years as pet owners are looking for new approaches to keeping their pet healthy and happy. Reports have been released in the past few years citing the significant growth of millennial pet owners as well as their spending on their pets. Much of these expenditures have been going to new gizmos and gadgets for our furry, feathered, or scaly friends.
Additional Technology Needs
|According to a 2018 report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the fraction of fish stocks fished at biologically unsustainable levels has increased from 10% in 1974 to 33.1% in 2015. The global fish production peaked at about 171 million tonnes in 2016 with aquaculture accounting for 53% of the total for consumption. Expanded aquaculture is required to meet the expected future demand for fish.
A yet2 client is interested in understanding the latest developments in aquaculture from around the world. They would like to identify best practices and enabling technologies that can help grow the percentage of the world’s fish consumption coming from sustainably farmed fish.
|The quality of frozen food is affected by many factors. These include upstream conditions (e.g. selection of raw materials, seasonal conditions, processing, etc.), the actual freezing process (e.g. speed of freezing, use of cold air and/or liquid nitrogen, etc.), as well as downstream conditions (e.g. transportation, distribution, home freezer environments, etc.). This client is focused on the entire spectrum of innovation in the frozen food industry.
A yet2 client is seeking state of the art technologies in the field of frozen food. Technologies should have reached at least the proof-of-concept stage to enable moving into production in the next several years.
