Overview:

A yet2 client is seeking improvements or alternatives to its approach to reducing/eliminating corrosion of steel that comes into contact with hydrocarbons and high-gas water. Any approaches should be able to withstand high pressures and temperatures, as well as having resistance to harsh chemicals.

Background:

Current approaches to eliminate corrosion at the steel surface have been unsuccessful or difficult to implement, with many known approaches unsuitable due to factors such as access to the steel surface or chemical resistance. Barrier approaches will also be considered that prevent contact between corrosive hydrocarbon fluid and steel surface.

Constraints:

Technologies must:

  • Be able to withstand temperatures between -20°C to +130°C
  • Be able to withstand pressures up to 600 bar
  • Resist chemical degradation from sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, biocides, methanol, and organic based chemicals

Possible Solution Areas:

  • Anti-corrosive coatings
  • Barrier material
  • Hydrophobic coatings

Desired outcome of the solution:

Identification of a technology that meets the desired parameters.
