Open Innovation began with a methodology that seemed to suit the linear, monolithic processes of early aughts and teens: ‘want, find, get, manage.’​ This was effective but often too rigid to accommodate the fast-paced changes in the industry. The evolution from a linear process to a more agile one has been driven by the need for faster, more informed decision-making. We observed that the most successful companies were those that adapted their innovation systems to be more flexible and responsive.
