
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) aim is to improve scientific data sharing within the research community by developing a data sharing index to encourage and reward researchers for sharing their datasets. Unlike the h-index for publications, no standardized system exists to measure how often datasets are shared. yet2 informed the NIH’s thinking about a data-sharing index prize challenge, providing feedback from the community, identifying key hurdles and means to address them, as well as presenting index models to incentivize researchers.
