Seeking: Non-plastic advanced materials for beverage containers

Share

Overview:

This organization, a global food & beverage company, is interested in identifying non-plastic advanced materials for beverage containers.  Formats beyond bottles (e.g. pouches) are in scope providing they do not contain plastic.  Materials that use traces of plastics or bioplastics are in scope but are of a lower priority.

Background:

Environmental concerns, consumer demand, government regulations and corporate sustainability goals are all drivers for organizations moving away from plastic.  At the same time, new materials and technologies are evolving to replace traditional plastic beverage packaging.  This organization is seeking to understand the landscape of non-plastic beverage packaging from early-stage research through to commercially available products.

Preferred criteria:

  • 100% non-plastic packaging will be prioritized
  • Materials with end-of-life claims
  • Materials with WVTR and/or OTR data

Potential solution areas:

  • Novel bottles, pouches, bag in box and others
  • Packaging with traces of plastic or bio plastics however these are of a lower priority
  • While the focus of this project will be on the main body of the packaging, technologies that enable non-plastic packaging are also in scope eg. additives, coatings etc.
  • Single-use cups and lids are in scope providing they are plastic free
