This is one in a series of blog posts where we highlight members of the global yet2 team. We recently spoke with Conor Peacock, a senior project leader based in our Liverpool, England, office.

What do you enjoy about working with yet2 clients?

I’ve been with Ascensia Diabetes Challenge, which is looking for the next big leap forward in diabetes self-management. They are seeking innovative digital solutions that can genuinely change behavior, support self-management and enhance the patient experience for people with Type 2 diabetes.

I’m also working on a technology search for a sensor or technique that can measure muscle fatigue in a person. The idea is that the method should be able to take the measurement in real time without being in contact with the person.

These types of technology searches can result in meaningful changes for individuals and for the world in general. It makes going to work every day exciting and interesting.

Speaking of exciting, is there a technology that excites you?

I’m very interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning right now. It has increasing relevance, but I think most people (myself included), still don’t realize how important it is already, and how important it will be in the future.

For example, not many people think of AI when looking at Netflix recommendations, and yet that is exactly what is going on. AI has pretty much already invaded many aspects of our lives and will only carry on to do so.

I’ve spoken with many people both in a work capacity and outside of work who are doing very interesting things with large amounts of data and have plans for the future. Machine learning is a vital component for what they want to do.

I think eventually AI and machine learning could lead to the technological singularity – and potentially the end of human civilization. But I also think it could lead to a period of unheralded human success and prosperity. What’s more exciting than not knowing which outcome it could be?

Do you have any books or podcast recommendations to share?

“The Meaning of it All,” by Richard P Feynman, is a great book of lectures. I just finished that and am currently reading “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas. For podcasts, I recommend listening to This American Life by NPR, Song Exploder, and You Must Remember This.

Keep up to date with Conor’s clients by visiting our active projects page on our website.
