Newton, MA – July 8, 2019 – Megan Waldock, senior project leader, yet2 a global open innovation and technology scouting consultancy, will be a featured speaker along with yet2 client Scott Ledgerwood, of NIST’s Public Safety Research Division at the NIST 2019 Public Safety Broadband Stakeholder Meeting taking place July 9 – 11, 2019 in Chicago. Waldock, Ledgerwood, and other members of the NIST community will present research and findings on haptic interfaces for public safety. Their panel is on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10:45am.

“Working with NIST, we researched over 75 companies that develop devices for first responders that have a significant user interface component,” said Waldock “We then interviewed 15 of those companies about the perceived benefits of using NIST’s virtual testbed technology. Feedback from these interviews indicated that using NIST’s virtual test environment would not only save significant costs, but also allow these companies to get more advanced devices to market faster than current testing methods.”

The NIST 2019 Public Safety Broadband Stakeholder Meeting is a three-day event offering public safety officials and others research updates, prize challenge announcements and results, and an opportunity to investigate new technologies for public safety. Tracks and topics include location-based services, security, resilient systems, analytics, enhanced UI/UX, mission critical voice, and more.

yet2 provides NIST with technology scouting services for needs such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to Support First Responder Communications in Emergency Situations. The research presented at this NIST conference was a result from challenges such as, the NIST First Responder Virtual Reality Heads-up-display Navigation Challenge and the Haptic Interfaces for Public Safety Challenge, which are open to academia, solvers and developers.
