A yet2 client is seeking disruptive technologies for the future of hair care devices, with a focus on solutions to demonstrably improve user experience by maintaining or improving hair and scalp health, minimizing damage, and enhancing styling outcomes.
Background:
Current market-leading haircare devices offer basic functionality, such as drying and styling, with little to no capability to measure or reduce damage to the user’s hair and scalp. While claims exist in the market around understanding hair properties, real-time measurement and actionable response capabilities remain limited.
Our client would like to understand what scientifically validated technologies are upcoming or currently available to enable development of advanced haircare devices with clear consumer benefits and market differentiators.
Areas of Interest & Possible Solution Areas:
- Hair care technologies to improve or maintain hair and scalp health, including minimizing damage and enhanced styling capabilities
- Solutions to improve the overall consumer experience of hair care device use (such as noise reduction, advanced heating technologies, etc.)
- Measurement technologies/sensors for real-time assessment of hair health, sensory, and styling parameters (diameter/density, scalp health, moisture etc.)
Requirements:
- IP protected/patented or future patentable technologies
- Scalable for large-scale production
- Open to range of maturity levels, from proof-of-concept (TRL 3/4) to complete and qualified (TRL 8/9)
Nice to have:
- Innovations that can scale across multiple device types/platforms
- Cross-industry applications, such as technologies used take care of natural fibers (wool, cotton, etc.) that can be adaptable to taking care of hair

- FMCG product only solutions (i.e. alternative chemistries, formulas, ingredients)
