A yet2 client is seeking partners to improve or replace current manufacturing platforms whose main function is to allow access to a large component manufactured in a fixed environment (not a production line). The existing platforms provide engineers horizontal access to the component 22m x 8m by utilising tiered stages and moving floors when working is required is above 0.5m and up to 2m in height.
The dated, existing manufacturing platforms currently have increasing and burdensome maintenance requirements as well as health & safety issues with the moving floors being a particular concern. Both of these are primarily caused by contamination of various materials including swarf, masking tape and coolant.
Solutions may take the form of enhancement or replacement however all must be carried out with the existing component footprint and support structure. An ideal solution provider would be able to deliver a design for, and implementation of the new manufacturing platform.
A new system should:
- Provide access to multiple positions of a large component to allow for manufacturing activities that include drilling, bolting, riveting etc.
- Allow for more than one operative to work on assembly at one time
- Be appropriate for multiple point, static assembly of a component
- Be easy to maintain
- Provide ease of operation and manoeuvrability
- Be resistant to contamination and obstruction common in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Reduce weight loading on floor
- Improve stability
- Improve safety (including fall arrest)
Constraints:
- The existing product footprint and support structure must be utilised
- Production will be ongoing during installation
- Production is 24/5.
- Any installation activities must be outside production operational shifts
- Heavy manufacturing environment swarf and coolant present
- No hot works to be conducted near to component under assembly
