Overview:

A yet2 client is seeking technologies capable of separating particles in suspension by size and/or density. Methods currently used involve the use of centrifugal forces or physical separation, both of which have drawbacks of efficiencies and high wear. The organization is looking to improve on currently used methods or discover fresh approaches.

Guidelines/Constraints:

  • The technology should be adaptable to a wide variety of throughput amounts and scales
  • The solution should withstand high potential levels of wear from sorting of hard materials
  • Typically used to separate particles ranging from 8 to 500 microns
  • The solution should have the potential for high throughput industrial applications, or the potential to be adapted for such applications

Possible Technology Solution Areas:

Potential approaches may include technologies that are in development or commercially available that are able to effectively separate materials by their size or density. Solution areas may include but are not limited to:

  • Cyclonic technologies (beyond those already widely known/used)
  • Mechanical screening
    • Vibration
    • Gyration
    • Trommels
  • Centrifugal technologies
  • Filtration solutions

Desired outcome of the solution:

The organisation would prefer a solution that is already on the market to roll out into their environment but are open to approaches in development.
