It must be lubricated and sealed for life, and it is not possible to open the device for maintenance. We will consider a variety of concepts and technologies.
State-of-the-art torque-transfer systems usually use chains or gears to transfer power between two shafts. Lubrication fluids minimize friction and wear.
But using lubrication fluids means plunging the chains or gears into the oil sump or using that oil by some other method, and exposes the system to additional oil transportation losses or additional weight and complexity.
We are seeking an innovative solution that will transfer torque from rotating shaft to rotating shaft without lubrication (dry running).
Your proposed solution might be a magnetic solution, or could use dry-running chains, gear sets, or belts, or it may use some other method altogether.
We must be able to disconnect the output of the device from the input in some way, so that one shaft can remain rotating while the other is stopped.
Your proposed technology should have a minimum Technology Readiness Level of 2: A technology concept or formulated application.
